It was incredibly hard, but the long, arduous years of working to help Brendan speak, to be toilet trained, to get him into the right school and to access and develop his potential were worthwhile. Today, Brendan is a happy 13 year-old in an autism school and is able to do many things they once believed might not be possible.

About the author: Dr May Ng, MBBS, FRCPCH, FHEA, MSc, LLM, MBA, PhD is an Honorary Associate Professor at the University of Liverpool and Consultant Paediatrician and Consultant Paediatric Endocrinologist based in Southport and Ormskirk NHS Trust in the United Kingdom. Dr Ng is also Associate Medical Director and Chair of the UK Association of Children’s Diabetes Clinician and Royal College CSAC Training Advisor for Endocrinology and Diabetes.
