About the book: These thirty-one brief meditations were inspired by a wide range of Gospel passages, meditated upon in the presence of Our Blessed Lord in the Holy Eucharist, in which Jesus defines Who He is in a variety of statements beginning with the words, "I am."
And so we are led by an expert in the spiritual life to a deeper understanding of the mystery of Jesus as the Alpha and the Omega of all things, the Resurrection and the Life, the Good Shepherd, the Vine, the Light of the World, the Bread of Life, the Word made Flesh, the Way, the Truth and the Life, the Teacher, the Gate, the Messiah, the Son of the Living God, and He Who Is, among many other titles.
Those who, in the presence of the Blessed Sacrament, ponder deeply the truths that are presented here and make a sincere effort to incorporate them into their lives will find themselves marvellously transformed by the indwelling presence of the Lord Who comes to nourish us in so many ways in the Holy Sacrament of the Altar.
It was Conchita's fervent desire that our faith in Jesus be strengthened by reading these, her dialogues, with the Lord, that our hope in Him as Saviour of the world might be increased, and that our love for Him and for one another might grow as well.
I AM: Eucharistic Meditations On The Gospel (written in 1912) was first published in 2001. This publication is a reprint published in 2019.
About the author: Blessed, Concepción Cabrera de Armida, better known as Conchita, was born in San Luis Potosi on 8 December 1862 and died in Mexico, Distrito Federal de México (DF), on 3 March 1937. Some 500,000 copies of her books were distributed anonymously throughout Europe and America during her lifetime and today continue to inflame hearts in the love of Jesus and the ardent desire to collaborate in the salvation of the world.
As a writer, she often aimed to show her readers how to love the Catholic Church:
"To love the Church is not to criticize her, not to destroy her, not to try to change her essential structures, not to reduce her to humanism, horizontalism and to the simple service of a human liberation. To love the Church is to cooperate with the work of Redemption by the Cross and in this way obtain the grace of the Holy Spirit come to renew the face of this poor earth, conducting it to its consummation in the design of the Father's immense love."
Of herself she wrote:
"I carry within me three lives, all very strong: family life with its multiple sorrows of a thousand kinds, that is, the life of a mother; the life of the Works of the Cross with all its sorrows and weight, which at times crushes me until I have no strength left; and the life of the spirit or interior life, which is the heaviest of all, with its highs and lows, its tempests and struggles, its light and darkness. Blessed be God for everything!"
Wife, mother, widow, lay apostle, Catholic mystic and writer, Conchita was beatified in Mexico City on 4 May 2019 as the first Mexican laywoman to receive this recognition.
